Pool Pump Calculator

Pool Pump Turnover & Daily Run-Time Calculator (Free)

Work out how long to run your pump each day. Enter your pool volume and pump flow rate to see hours for a full turnover and recommended daily run-time (1.0×–2.0×). Supports metric and imperial units.

How to use the calculator

  1. Enter pool volume (L or gal). Tip: use our Pool Volume Calculator first if you’re unsure.
  2. Enter pump flow (L/h, L/min, gph or gpm).
  3. Select turnovers/day (many pools target 1–2× per day).
  4. Click Calculate to see hours for 1× and your daily run-time.

Example: 60,000 L pool, 12,000 L/h pump → one turnover ≈ 5h. At 1.5×/day → ≈ 7h 30m.

FAQs

How many turnovers per day should I run?

Common guidance is 1–2× per day, but follow your manufacturer’s advice and local regulations.

What if my pump flow rate isn’t listed?

Check the pump label/manual or your filter pressure gauge + flow chart. You can also estimate from manufacturer specs.

Does longer run-time always mean cleaner water?

Up to a point, yes—but water balance, filtration, brushing and skimming matter too. Aim for consistent circulation.
